Lesson 65--animal group names


It might interest you to know that in English, we have names for groups of animals.

 

a swarm of bees
a flock of geese
a pack of wolves
a flock of camels
a litter of cats/kittens (used when they are born)
a team of horses (when they are working together)
a school of fish
a herd of deer
a herd of cows
a nest of vipers


This list could be much longer, but you get the idea..  It could be interesting and fun to learn more of these collective animal names.

Lesson 64--To go on about something

Phrasal Verbs


Go on about = to talk about something for a long time (not always positive)

i.e.       He went on about his vacation for hours.
            She always goes on about her boyfriends until I start screaming.

 
notice, you can add an extra "and on" to make it seem even more annoying.

i.e.       He goes on and on about his favourite soccer team. 
            My father goes on and on and on about how much better things were before.

Get to the bottom of something = find out the reason or cause of something.



i.e.       I have to get to the bottom of this mystery.

            It took a lot of questions, but he finally got to the bottom of it.

            A: What's wrong with Jim?
            B:  I don't know.  I'll ask his brother.  I am sure I can get to the bottom of it.

Lesson 61--Get on with something

Phrasal Verb


Get on with something = to start doing something you should do.

i.e.       I have to get on with my homework.
            After dinner, I got on with my project.

 

Get on with something = after taking a break, to do what you were previously doing.

i.e.       After getting the new software, I got on with the design project.
            I got on with work after studying for nine weeks.

similar to get back to

i.e.       I got back to work after studying for nine weeks.
